Organizing and Reorganizing and then Organizing Again

I went to bed last night firm in the plans I'd made for today before I go to work tonight:  get up, go to the gym, and attempt to run on the treadmill and do a bit of biking.  Come home, eat, get cleaned up, and take a nap.

I woke up this morning and rearranged my plans while laying in bed, with "2 o'clock!" flashing in my head.  That's the time I have to be at work.  I'm not a huge fan of relaxing, then working.  I guess I'm one of those  Americans that would much rather get up early, get the work over with, then relax.  But when I work a 2nd shift, it throws off my day.  I will wake up early, because I don't sleep in.  I just can't.  So I get up early, putter around, and then get sleepy because I realize I'll be up until 11:30 or so tonight.  I have to take a short cat nap, or my energy fades by 6pm, just when I really need to be awake to manage the store!  It's not good when the Manager working the store that night can't stay awake.  Makes my response time very slow...

I decided to skip the gym this morning, and try and get as much done around the house this morning as I can, so when I have my day off tomorrow, I can spend more time at the gym and not feel anxious to get moving and cut my workout short.  I haven't been to the gym in two weeks.  This Christmas season started much sooner than last year, and for the first time in about 4 years, I am not running every week.  I think it's made a big difference in how I feel everyday.  I have a distinct lack of sustained energy, and when I get home, it's all I can do to stay awake until 9 pm.  It can be a pain to take time to go to the gym, but it really helps burn off stress and give me endurance.  I'm so out of shape now, it will take me a while to get back into shape.  January cannot come soon enough to help me kick myself into gear.  I have plans to run races in 2011!

Today's plans are to finish up making my chocolate vodka (Christmas gift for friends), wrap all my presents, and make date bread.  If I can get all of this done before noon, I can take a short cat nap, then get ready for work.  Tomorrow is my last day off before Christmas day, and I have to make it count.  A friend said "I would just sleep all day", but not only is that not physically possible for me, but what a waste of a day!  It will be a day of gym work, cleaning up the house, and delivering presents.  And reading my book.  I haven't been reading much at all, and it's getting me depressed!  So I will get my "chores" done and block out the afternoon for a reading marathon.

How are you doing the week before Christmas?  Is everyone finally in the Christmas mood? Cookie dough I have frozen will be pulled out next week and baked,  so Bud and I will have fresh cookies for Christmas.  I must feed the man something other than Christmas candy from a bowl!

  1. You know, I just scratch off December, the plans just go awry anyway...We finished our xmas cards and we deliver gifties to certain neighbours and they are already to go, plus my better half has his bday this week, with two parties I am hosting... am already tired thinking of it.

I have to say that the chocolate vodka had me intrigued. Hard to make?

Have a great day at work... hope you can keep your eyes open

    Cheers

  2. I like to look at December as the "chill" month. It's the only month you can really get away with eating whatever you want, taking awesome naps at whatever time suits you, watch as much holiday t.v. as you like without ridicule, listen to non-stop Christmas music, and just be lazy. :)

The New year is the mega-bitch that will guilt us into getting off our bums.

So far, so good on getting everything done. Finished my Christmas cards last Thursday and have the Christmas dinner menu all laid out. All gifts are here, but for one (should be delivered this week). I still have to wrap, though. I'm really bad about the whole wrapping thing. My goal is to finish wrapping by Thursday. Um, maybe Friday.

But, yeah, I'm totally in the holiday spirit...and I'm even more so when I visit your blog--just LOVE the background you have here!

  3. Frisky!!

Thanks for liking my blog background--it cheers me up, too!
Sounds like you've got your Christmas plans all under control. I plan on sleeping in tomorrow morning for sure. It's so cold outside I don't want to leave my house!

Tracy: Sounds like you've got a lot going on this week. Take care of yourself and rest. Christmas is coming so fast I think everyone is going to scramble around next week to get everything done.
